10 Oases for Studying in Aarhus

Aarhus is naturally bordered by stunningly beautiful surroundings. Whether on foot or by bike, it is a short way from the city's university to the peaceful nature experiences.


1. Riis Forest

North of downtown lies Riis Forest where you can meet a lot of students, especially on weekends, who are taking a jog on the forest trails

2. Den Permanente

The beach ‘Den Permanente’ (English: The Permanent) is by far the most popular beach for young people in Aarhus, and it is only a 10-minute bike ride from the city centre! Here you will find lifeguards during the summer, changing rooms, toilet facilities, and a refreshment kiosk.

3. The Deer Park

South of the Aarhus city, in the Thors woods which are part of the larger Marselisborg-Moesgaard forest, lies the Deer Park. The area houses a wonderful population of sika and fallow deer which you can get really close to. The wild boars live in their own enclosure.

The students are saying: "It's so nice when there are cubs. You get really close to the animals and that's incredibly beautiful."

4. Moesgaard Beach

Sandy beach at the edge of Marselisborg Forest. 5 miles south of the centre. We recommend bus route 18 to get to Moesgård Beach.

5. Aarhus Ø - Aarhus East

The new part of town is well under way and is now a charming mosaic separated by canals. From the downtown cafés it is only a few minutes’ walk to the south facing ledges in front of the educational campus, Navitas, where you can dip your toes in the cool sea water."

6. City Parks

There are many parks in downtown Aarhus: The Botanical GardenRådhusparkenMarselisborg Memorial Park, and of course the University Park.

There are events in many of the gardens during the summer, like Regatta in the University Park, Stalla Polaris, Summer Chillout in the Botanical Garden and Rådhuspark, respectively.

7. Marselisborg Forests

South of Aarhus a forest belt stretches 7 kilometres along the coast. The part of the forest near the city is known as Marselisborg Skovene (the Marselisborg Forests). The large, continuous and old beech stands which can be seen in this area are quite unique in Denmark.

8. Bellevue Beach

4 kilometres north of the centre at suburb Risskov. Nice sandy beach with very fine sand and bathing jetties.

10. Brabrand Lake

Brabrand Lake is a rather long, nutritious, shallow lake, situated in the eastern part of Aarhus Ådal (Aarhus Stream Valley) that stretches from the open country west of Aarhus right into the middle of Aarhus.
