New educational opportunities at Aarhus University

  • A national reform of the Master's degree programmes offered at Danish universities is currently being finalised and will come into effect for Master’s degree admissions in 2028. If you are applying for a Bachelor's degree programme in 2025, this reform may affect you.
  • We will update this webpage regularly with information and answers to questions that may affect your choice of degree programme.
  • You can find more information on the Master’s degree reform on the Ministry of Higher Education and Science’s website.

Why are there fewer places on Bachelor’s degree programmes at Aarhus University from 2025?

As a result of the reform, a number of degree programmes at Aarhus University will offer fewer student places in 2025 compared with previous years.

How will this affect me?

  • If there are fewer student places on a programme, the minimum average grade required for admission to the programme might be higher compared with the previous year. You can see if the programmes you are interested in will have fewer places in 2025 at bachelor.au.dk/en.

Why are some Bachelor’s degree programmes not admitting students in 2025?

As a result of the reform, Aarhus University has decided that some degree programmes will not admit new students in 2025 and will be discontinued.

How will this affect me?

  • This might mean that it will not be possible to apply for the degree programme you were interested in.
  • At bachelor.au.dk/en, you can see whether the degree programmes you are interested in will be admitting students in 2025. You can also find alternative degree programmes that might appeal to you.

What should I know about Master’s degree programmes if I’m applying for a Bachelor's degree programme in 2025?

As part of the reform, some Master's degree programmes will be converted from two-year programmes to one-year programmes. We will provide information at masters.au.dk about which Master’s degree programmes will be affected.

How will this affect me?

  • Please note that, if you hold a Bachelor's degree from Aarhus University, you will be guaranteed admission to a Master's degree programme at the university – this is known as the legal right of admission (retskrav).
  • You will also be able to apply for Master's degree programmes other than the one to which you are guaranteed admission.
  • The legal right of admission will remain unchanged for most degree programmes. Read more about the legal right of admission
