Admission requirements

To be eligible to apply for admission to Aarhus University, you must meet the admission requirements.

There are two types of admission requirements:

1.

You must have passed a qualifying entry examination

2.

You must meet the specific admission requirements

1. Qualifying Entry Examination

To apply to Aarhus University you must hold a qualifying entry examination. This must be passed before 5 July in the year of the application (unless you are a paying applicant).

If you have more than one finished entry examination, it is only the Grade Point Average (GPA) from the first exam that can be used in quota 1. A retake exam can never be used in quota 1.

The subject levels from additional exams can be used to fulfil the admission requirements.

A qualifying entry examination can never be outdated.

The general non-Danish qualifying entry examinations:

  • The majority of European general secondary school exams
  • The majority of Non-European secondary school degrees in combination with at least one year studies at university/college level
  • The majority of European technical/business related secondary school degrees
  • European Baccalaureate (EB)
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)

You can find an assessment of many non-Danish qualifying examinations here.

Aarhus University follows the guidelines set forth by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science in the examination handbook for our assessment of your qualifying entry examination.

2. Specific Admission Requirements

You can find the specific admission requirements under each programme here.

You can fulfil the specific admission requirements with your subjects in your qualifying entry examination (upper secondary education), with subjects from higher education, and by supplementing.

Assessment of your subject levels from your qualifying entry examination is based on a comparison to the specific subject levels in the Danish upper secondary school system.

Please note that A, B and C subject levels all refer to Danish subject levels and not grades.

AU Admissions assesses your subject levels based on:

  • Specialisation in your upper secondary education (science, humanities, linguistics, etc.)
  • AU’s knowledge of examinations from the relevant countries
  • The examination handbook
  • Number of instruction hours in the final 3 years of your upper secondary education.
  • Course descriptions (if necessary)

Relevant subjects from higher education can also be taken into consideration for the assessment of your subject levels if you upload certified documentation for these.

Please also note our specific language requirements to all Bachelor's degree programmes at Aarhus University.

Along with your application you must upload:

  • A certified upper secondary diploma and grade transcript
  • Certified documentation of relevant supplementary courses
  • Certified documentation for higher education (e.g. university transcript)
  • Verification form, if applicable (number of instruction hours in your upper secondary school)
  • Documentation of your citizenship (passport or ID card)
  • A copy of your residence permit in Denmark, if applicable
  • Certified documentation for relevant qualifications for your quota 2 assessment (deadline 15 March)
  • Any additional documentation you wish taken into consideration in the assessment of your application

It is very important that you upload certified copies of your documentation, signed and stamped by the issuing authority.

The course must be passed

You must have received a passing grade in your upper secondary subject levels in order for them to fulfil the specific admission requirements. This also applies if the level is taken as part of a qualifying examination. The pass requirement cannot be fulfilled by rounding up the grade.
